DJD113 - Strength from Prayer

Scripture:
Mark 1:35

Starting Question:

What would be impossible for you to live without?

Strength from Prayer

Imagine the government of your country said, “From now on, Tuesday is eating day! There will be no food available on any other day. The supermarkets will be closed every day but Tuesday. The fast food outlets will be closed. All shops that sell food will be closed, every day, except Tuesday.”

The press releases and the news paper articles explained there was just too much eating going on. "It isn’t good to be eating every day. So, we are going to help you stop!" You need some food, so Tuesday is as good as any day.

They also announced that every non-Tuesday they will send out observers to make sure there was no food being eaten anywhere. If you broke the law, they would test the blood sugar level of every person in your house, every day, to ensure you were not breaking the food law.

That’s crazy. right? And yet how many of us do that exact thing with our hearts. We need God. And yet, many of us only talk to God and listen to God one day a week - at church.

God created us to eat spiritual food every day. Most of us eat three meals a day. What if we ate three spiritual meals each day? The song we learned as children goes, “Read your Bible, pray everyday and you’ll grow, grow, grow.” Three grows. Three meals.

God promises that when we spend time with Him we will be filled with His love for the lost, compassion for the suffering, and passion for the Kingdom of God. Why do we starve ourselves?

Perhaps we have never been spiritually satisfied. And we don’t know what we are missing. Imagine what would happen if you took food to a starving country and gave them three healthy meals each day. What amazing things you would see in those people in just a few weeks!

Now imagine you ate spiritually three times each day - reading the Bible and praying multiple times. It wouldn’t take long and you would realise, “I was starving!” And being well fed by the Spirit of God you would say, “I never want to be spiritually starved again!”

Reflection Question:
How do you think your life would change if you spent more time with Jesus each day?

Prayer time:
Before you pray together, ask: What would you like to say to Jesus today?
