Corona Virus - Australian Support Services


The Coronavirus Health Information Line provides general information relating to coronavirus to the community. The line operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 1800 020 080

If you suspect you have Coronavirus call the dedicated hotline on 1800 675 398. This line operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Community Support Coles and Woolworths: have a dedicated ‘community hour’ from 7am to 8am in all its supermarkets to improve access to essential groceries for the elderly and disadvantaged. Access will be exclusively for elderly customers and others in need of assistance. To enter the store, customers need to present a government-issued identification card, including: 
• Pensioner Concession Card 
• Companion Card 
• Commonwealth Seniors Health Card 
• Health Care Card 
• Seniors Card 
• Disability Card Store managers will use sensible discretion and compassion to ensure vulnerable customers who require access are able to complete their shopping during Community Hour, including those from smaller aged care facilities and women’s domestic violence groups. 
Woolworths: is offering eligible customers, including seniors, people with a disability and those with compromised immunity or who are required to self-isolate, to register for priority access for home delivery with dedicated delivery windows at: www.woolworths.com.au/shop/discover/priorityassistance?icmpid=sm:online-shopping:priority- assistance. These customers can also call 1800 000 610 to seek assistance. 
Coles: is offering eligible customers a Coles Online Priority Service. This service will be launching soon for customers who are unable to easily access a Coles Supermarket. This service will allow these customers to purchase their essential items online and have them delivered to their home. Limits on products will still apply. Delivery windows will be open between 9am and 7pm, with deliveries delivered to customers doorsteps. Unattended delivery is also available.

People who don’t currently get a payment from the Australian government – information on Coronavirus – you may be able to get a payment if you, or your family are affected by Coronavirus and you are unable to work, are in isolation or hospitalised or are caring for children. To get a payment you will need to meet all of the eligibility criteria.

The Victorian Government has announced $500 million to establish a Business Support Fund to assist small to medium businesses most impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. 
Small and medium-sized businesses with annual payrolls of less than $3 million are entitled to a refund of all the payroll tax they have paid for the first three-quarters of the current financial year and will get a waiver on their bills from the State Revenue Office for the June quarter.

The Australian Government has announced measures to support businesses impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19). If you're a sole trader or you employ people, learn what your business can get and where to go for help. To get more information on what support is available if you are a sole trader or employ people at: 
Business Economic Stimulus Package 
Small and medium business entities with aggregated annual turnover under $50 million and that employ workers will be eligible. Eligibility will generally be based on prior year turnover. 
• The payment will be delivered by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as a credit in the activity statement system from 28 April 2020 upon businesses lodging eligible upcoming activity statements. 
• Eligible businesses that withhold tax to the ATO on their employees’ salary and wages will receive a payment equal to 50 per cent of the amount withheld, up to a maximum payment of $25,000. 
• Eligible businesses that pay salary and wages will receive a minimum payment of $2,000, even if they are not required to withhold tax. This measure will benefit around 690,000 businesses employing around 7.8 million people.

The "So What?" of Daniel 11

Daniel 11 is often presented as a 3 hour 'who-done-it' lecture thus missing the point at the heart of the chapter and the heart of God. In short, Daniel 11 is about God and His people throughout the ages of sin. Kingdoms' rise and fall. But God is on point and His people live purposefully.

Daniel 11's world history in a nutshell: 
There are always battling nations and ideologies with God's people caught in the middle.

Daniel 11's purposeful point: 
Daniel 11:32-35 answers the 'so what' question. These verses reveal the main life points applicable by God's covenant people. The question: While caught in the middle, what are we to do?

God's people:
Know God and Act in Faith (Daniel 11:32) 
 Study the Bible with others (Daniel 11:33) 
Help each other to safety (Daniel 11:34) 
Fall and are rescued/strengthened by God (Daniel 11:35) 

Consider: 
God has a plan unaffected by human action (Daniel 11:27,35) 

Take away challenge: 
Love God and people. Help others just as God helps you.

The Silver Lining



I don’t believe God sends calamities. God didn’t send the Corona Virus.

What I do believe is: The Holy Spirit is busy insulating clouds with silver linings.

In the first hundred years or so after Jesus’ death and resurrection, the Church went viral. It grew exponentially. The Great Commission was infiltrating families, towns, countries and continents.

Jesus’ disciples grew in number daily.

And they did it in homes.

That’s right. Every church was a house church. The church spread like wildfire because the church was liquid. Then our ancestors turned the church into a solid. They built walls around it. Both theological and physical walls. They set it in stone. They bricked God in. Sure, they put in doors and stained-glass windows, but cathedral doors are often locked and theological stained-glass windows are always closed. The church of the Middle Ages restricted access to God.

Then the reformation decentralised the church allowing denominational divisions to thrive. Now, the world hosts over 30,000 distinct Christian denominations!

And yet, Jesus said to His Father, “May they be one as we are one.” Paul riffed on this prayer of Jesus, saying: “There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism.”

So, here we are in 2020. Governments in dozens of countries have restricted mass gatherings due to the rapidly spreading Corona Virus. Sporting teams play games to empty stadiums attended only by TV cameras. Some sporting codes cancelled their seasons all together. Pop stars cancelled concerts. Places of worship have been closed. Mosques. Temples. Synagogues. Churches. The clouds hang low, blanketing the world in fear. The 30,000 Christian denominations that meet in some 15 million church buildings around the globe have nowhere to go.

Or do they?

The Holy Spirit is unrestricted and goes wherever He wishes, like wind through trees.

Have you ever flown through a cloud? We are in one now. Can you see the silver lining?

Millions of Christians headed home. Not to do church but to be the church. Christianity, for a month or two, is going back to its roots. People meeting in homes. Families worshipping together in sincerity. No sound systems. No professionals professing. The body of Christ is returning to the lounge room. Just people. At home. Snuggled into fluffed up couches, holding steaming drinks. And sharing their hearts.

God didn’t send the Corona Virus. But when the Corona cloud enveloped us, God said, “I’ll take it!" And He sent His Spirit with silver paint and a message: "Where two or three are gathered, God is with you."

My 2020 Vision - Forgiveness

In 2019, I accidentally tried something new. I preached the same sermon 20 times! 


That sermon changed my heart (through repetition) and touched the lives of many listeners. I think I might be on to something! So, I have decided to speak on a single theme again this year. This time: Forgiveness.

Forgiveness is the world's greatest need. Present and growing in the character of every person who has met Jesus, forgiveness changes lives. Deeply shaped by the forgiveness I live within, I feel the tug of God on my heart to share my story of receiving, giving and teaching forgiveness. 

I am working with Wayne Boehm from Hope Channel Australia to direct people, in the smoothest way possible, from my forgiveness sermon to the Forgive to Live website and the six part Forgive to Live Study Guide Series recently launched by Hope Channel. Make sure you use and share these webites. They are AMAZING! 

In doing this six part series, I realised the journey of forgiveness I have been on is travelled by many people. I was made aware of places in which I was stuck because I needed to forgive. Perhaps you or people in your church are locked up in the prison of blame, shame or anger. Forgiveness is the answer and Christians have the best forgiveness story the universe has ever heard!

I'd like to challenge you to make forgiveness a consistent theme for this year. Loving Relationships is often the minimum factor in churches. Loving Relationships cannot happen without trust. And trust can only be regained through forgiveness.
